Thank you for your comment and sorry about your issues. A couple of things I would suggest is try the MJ on a friends pc and see if that works. MY bet is it is an issue with the MJ or something on the pc that is causing the issue.

I purchased the magicjack a few months ago. I read reviews beforehand and felt it would be a good purchase for me. I was easy to install and worked ok for a few hours, then no dial tone, no one can call in, and i can't call out. customer service was useless. I gave up on it a long time ago, the only thing they could tell me was to get another phone, not only do i not want to replace my phone, what guarantee is there any other one will work any better. I am really glad so many people have had success with it. unfortunately i guess its back to the traditional landline for me.

Yes it is amazing. I paid $40 for mine in the Toronto area a year ago. If you do watch the sales sometimes you can get a deal. Thank you for your comments they are much appreciated.

Yesterday, I purchased a MagicJack at The Source store in Toronto. The price is slightly higher in Canada, then if you purchased it online or in the USA. MagicJack does offer Canadian phone numbers for an additional $10.00. As well, according to the MagicJack website "Number porting will be available first week of August 2010" (ie, transferring your phone number to a MagicJack). Talk about savings!

Thank you for your comment. I am glad you like the Magic Jack. I have had not had any issues with the length of a call. I have been on it for over an hour and not had an issue. I am glad you like the product.

I've been using magicjack since march 2010 and I love it as I call people from the usa and canada on their lan line and cell phone and they all call me and we all hear each other perfectly.

I spoke to magicjack through their online chat and found out about the time limit on how long a call lasts then you gotta call the person back or they call you back. So its not really all that good for business's cause imagine your calling and talking to a client for a long time then it cuts you off. The client will not want your business and think your doing it on purpose.

But still i love it and hopefully with this magictalk that is just software you run on your pc i can import my number to the software and use that cause they have no limit and i dont have to worry about a piece of hardware.

But still and I repeat still enjoying the magicjack as i use it a few times a week.

Thanks.

Hi Bev: I hope Mexico is good. I really like the Magic Jack. The monitor does not have to be on all the time. The computer does. You just plug a normal phone into the Magic Jack and it works like a normal phone. I am in Toronto and I use my Magic Jack on an older computer that does not even have a monitor attached to it.

I think Skype has a lot of value as well. I normally use it for computer to computer video calls but in your case I agree the MagicJack is the way to go. Good luck with it:)

Hi Rob: We just moved to Mexico from London, Ontario Canada. I have been researching different long distance plans that are available. I have narrowed it down to Magic Jack, Vonage and Skype. Many Americans that are here use the Vonage! It is fairly expensive monthly payments and it seems like alot of customers have many complaints about them charging more money every month. Also not good sound quality. So no Vonage! Skype also has an unlimited monthly calling plan (I have parents who don't have a computer so I need Skype's calling a landline plan) There seems to be monthly fees as well as a fee for your number every year. I like the reviews that I have seen about Magic Jack. Nothing is perfect. I can bring it here to Mexico and Canadian numbers are now available for Windsor and Brantford. So I could get one of them and call family and freinds and they would just be charged a long distance charge but still in Ontario. There are cheap long distance plans available in Canada like Worldwide. You pay $4/month for unlimited to anywhere in Canada. Here in Mexico I have 3Mbps for service. Is this going to be enough? I also have to have it shipped to family in Canada and then have it fedexed to me here in Mexico. For nothing could I convince them to ship this to me. So I hope to have my magic jack in a months time. Also do you have to have your monitor on at all times when using this?
Thanks again for your review. I am pretty much convinced now that Magic Jack is what I need here.

Can I leave the magic jack USB connected all the time? I never turn off my computer. Also I heard that the USB will slow down the computer.

Energy costs are a concern now with TOU pricing and everything coming into effect now. I built a low power PC to run my MJ 24/7. I plan to use my MJ as my land line once I get all friends/family/companies over to the new number. The PC i built uses just 24 watts! It cost me about $200 to build, but that will be recouped in no time.
