My Community

I thought I would write a quick post about community tonight and why it is important to me. A lot of people wonder why I care so much community. They typically will often say things like I am too busy or I have a family and I don’t have time. Frankly I feel this is just apathy and really excuses for not getting involved. Let me explain why.

My Mom and Dad had 4 kids. They always made time for there community. For many years my Mom was involved in the school if it was fundraising or the Home and School Association )not often called pto). My father was a coach and a Beaver/Cub leader for many years. It would have been easy for either of them to sit on the sidelines and say I have 4 kids and I do not have time to get involved. This is an excuse by many people. My parents chose not to take this approach but to be involved and be community minded. I give them a lot of credit for what they have done and how they did it.

I myself am greatly involved in my community. I have been a lacrosse coach and a member of my league’s executive for many years. I enjoy spending the time with the youth of today and having them development there life skills. Lacrosse is a game which I have passion for but I have even more passion for those who play the game.

I have been involved giving web design and social media advise to the Child Abuse Monument project in Toronto. This is a project which I deeply believe in and will continue to provide advice for when it is asked for.

Another way I have become community aware is being involved with my good friend Scott Mills’ projects and coming out and support his community projects. Scott is one the social media officers for Toronto Police and provides amazing support to the community her serves. He believes in being a proactive police officer not a reactive one.

These are just three of many example how I care about my community that I live in. I believe in giving back to my community. If you are not involved in supporting your community, please look at ways today that you can get involved.
