Analytics for social media or your web site. Do they really matter. The answer is yes and no. Many people will argue that they are all that matter. I would say the opposite is true. Let me explain.
On Twitter I have over 18,000 followers. I have thousands who read this blog. At the end of the day I am grateful for all of this but does it even matter? It is to me for all the amazing friendships I have made and the communities which I help. These are two of my big goals in the life.
Reread the last statement. Big goals are the key words. You social media and blogging strategy must meet your goals to be successful. Besides the two goals I have mentioned, my third goal is to generate web design, social media consulting and internet security business. The key is for my social media efforts to be successful I need one or more then one of these goals to be fulfilled.
Let me explain more. If I was a manufacturing company and my web site/social media goal is to obtain more clients it does not matter if my web site has 10,000 hits a day if these hits do not convert into clients. Then my entire strategy is not working.
This is why I do not believe we should always get hung up on numbers. They key is to meet our goals and once we do that, then we are successful. So analytics matter but only to a point. What matters is meeting our goals.
