I get asked all the time what equipment I use in order to blog and work at home. The following is a brief hardware and software list of what I use. The list is in no particular order. It is just a list I will continue adding to as I change hardware or software.
1. Main Laptop
My Main Laptop is a Lenovo T61 running Windows 7 Home Premium. When I am at home I attached it to a USB docking station and an HP 17″ monitor. It is the laptop that I do most of my writing and consulting on. I have a 500 Meg hard drive and 3GB of Ram in the laptop.
2. My Server
I use a Lenovo desktop running Windows XP. The machines has 1GB ram and a 40 GB Hard Drive in it. I have 2 – 2TB hard drives connected to it.
3. My GF’s Desktop
Kelli uses a Lenovo Desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium with 3GB of Ram and a 320MB Hard Disk.
4. My GF’s laptop
Kelli has a Lenovo T61 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop has 2GB of Ram and a 180GB Hard Drive in it.
5. Video Camera
I use a Kodak Playsport to shoot video with. For under $200 it shoots true 1080P video.
6. Entertainment
I have an original Xbox as well as an N64 compatible system to play classic video games on. In the portable department I own a PSP which I use to play video on the go.
7. Cell Phone
I currently use an Iphone 4
10. Portable Music Players
For listening to audio books, podcasts and music on the go I use a 4th generation Ipod Nano.
10. Kelli’s Cell Phone
Kelli uses a Blackberry Curve 9300 Smart Phone to connect to the world.
11. Digital Camera
I use a Kodak Easy Share M380.
12. Laser Printer
I use an HP P1102W printer for printing.
13. Multifunction Ink Jet Printer
I use a Canon Pixima MX 410 for scanning, faxing and printing.
14. Web Camera
I use a Microsoft Life Cam VX-2000
15. Headset
I use a Microsoft Life Chat LX-3000 for listening to music and talking on Skype. Microphone.
16. Micophone
I am using the Blue Snowball Mic.
17. Netbook
I have an Acer net book with 2Gb of ram and a 160GB hard drive for portability. It is running Windows 7.
18. Tablet
I currently am using a 16 GB Ipad II Wi-Fi Version.
19. Software
I use an assortment of software. Microsoft Office 2007 for client work and Google Docs for work around here. All our operating systems at home are Windows 7 with one exception. I have virtual machines setup for Windows 8, Linux and Xp testing.
For photo management I still like to use Google Picasa and for picture edition Photoshop works nicely.
For security I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware bytes on most of our machines.
